I'm Liam Walsh. I spent most of my career running some of the country's biggest media businesses — Managing Director of Facebook Australia, then Managing Director of Microsoft Advertising. I've sat in the rooms where these decisions get made.
I've also spent a long time writing and talking publicly about fairness — at work and in life. I wrote The Corporate Charade, about why we behave so differently at work than everywhere else, and I've been open for years about identifying as a feminist, long before this project existed.
ForBothOfUs came from watching the same story happen to women I know, over and over: one partner steps back to raise children, the relationship ends, and the law only ever looks at what's left in the bank account — never at the income one person gave up to make the other's career possible. That's not a legal failure. It's a product nobody has built yet.
I'm publishing the entire business case for it publicly, for free, because I'd rather see it built by an institution that already has the infrastructure than sit on it. I'm not doing this alone — there's a small team helping bring it to life — but this page is about accountability, so it's my name on it.
Not every executive gets to choose what they're remembered for. This is what I'm choosing.
